Description
In 1980, Bunus received the Romanian Artists’ Association’s Graphic Art Prize and in 1987 a recognition prize in the Cologne art competition “Das Rundbild als Aktionsfeld”. He created a “Garden Gate to the Year 2000” for the Durbach Sculpture Park as part of the 1999 Sculpture Symposium. The art historian Gerlinde Brandenburg wrote about his work in 1989: “The work of Ioan Bunus is to be seen in the context of that great artistic movement after the Second World War, which in Europe is known as Informel after the school of Paris that characterised it. In contrast to classical Art Informel, whose key word is spontaneity, Bunus’ creative process takes place in a deliberate progression rather than a violent discharge, an approach that may result from his temperament. His informal gestures have developed into lyrical abstraction”.
