Maroti has succeeded in fusing the mysterious writhing of Surrealism with the speed frenzy of the Futurists to create pieces in which the technical possibilities of the century once again achieve chrome-flashing splendour. While the American John Chamberlain, born in 1927, formed sculptures from car scrap like others crumple up paper, Maroti, who was ten years older and died in Budapest in 1987, brought out the glamour, energy, but also the violence and aggression of the technical age in a highly polished, razor-sharp, streamlined manner.
